Dental implants are an alternative to dentures and many see them as the best way to replace missing teeth because they are a fixed option. Once in place, a dental implant can look just like your own tooth to anyone who is not an expert.
Your dentist will fix a titanium screw into your jaw and attach a replacement crown, bridge or denture to it. A single screw can often be used to replace several missing teeth, but depending on your needs, you may need several screws placed. Dental implants need lots of healthy bone to work, and things can take some time to heal once the implant has been placed so you may have a temporary restoration or a gap while your treatment is ongoing.
Although they are not ‘natural’ teeth, dental implants still require regular brushing and good oral health is even more important to maintain them.
Dental implants are an advanced treatment and not always suitable for everyone, and we can discuss whether they are right for you.
